The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is excited to announce its Summer Internship Program for undergraduate students in 2024. Join us in advancing measurement science, standards, and technology to enhance economic security and improve quality of life.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to ongoing research projects in areas such as materials science, cybersecurity, biosciences, and engineering.
- Assist NIST scientists and engineers in conducting experiments, collecting data, and analyzing results.
- Participate in laboratory activities, workshops, and seminars to expand knowledge and skills.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to tackle complex challenges and develop innovative solutions.
- Present findings through reports, presentations, and posters at the conclusion of the internship.

Requirements:
- Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) discipline.
- Strong academic record with coursework relevant to the internship area of interest.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required for federal internships.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
- Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) are a plus but not required.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Eagerness to learn and contribute to impactful research projects.
Experience:
Previous research experience, internships, or coursework related to the internship area is preferred but not required. We welcome applications from students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
