Job Description
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) offers unpaid internships in Washington, D.C., for periods ranging from 12 weeks to 12 months. Interns in the Legislative Affairs team within the Office of External Affairs (OEA) gain hands-on experience in public affairs, communications, and congressional relations. This internship is an excellent opportunity to support DFC’s mission while developing skills for future careers in federal, state, and local government or the private sector.
Responsibilities
Interns working with the Legislative Affairs team will engage in various projects, including:
- Monitoring and reporting on legislation relevant to DFC.
- Assisting with research and preparation for Congressional engagements.
- Tracking Congressional hearings and providing summaries.
- Updating records and tracking systems for Legislative Affairs.
- Researching and drafting content for external communication materials.
- Supporting DFC’s OEA with media releases, social media management, event coordination, and more.
Qualifications
To qualify for this internship, applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university.
- Be an undergraduate student majoring in international relations, political science, communications, economics, or finance.
- Have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Experience
- Relevant coursework or prior experience in government affairs, political science, communications, or related fields is preferred.
- Exposure to legislative research and experience with event planning or public relations is a plus.
Skills
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- The ability to effectively communicate complex information.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
