Job Description
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) offers unpaid internships throughout the year in Washington, D.C., ranging from 12 weeks to 12 months. Interns gain hands-on experience in various DFC departments, contributing to their educational and professional growth. This internship program provides valuable insights and skills applicable to future employment in government or the private sector.
Responsibilities
Intern duties vary by department and may include the following:
- Finance Project Team: Graduate interns on project finance teams collaborate with senior finance professionals and participate as junior analysts. Responsibilities may involve:
- Reviewing financing applications and financial statements.
- Conducting financial modeling and sensitivity analysis for projected cash flows.
- Writing economic summaries and conducting political risk analyses.
- Assisting in preparing loan documentation for Credit or Investment Committee review.
- Collaborating with Investment Officers and other departments to complete project clearances and approvals.
- Assisting in processing disbursement requests for project financing.
- Reviewing applications for financing and political risk insurance and conducting Character Risk Due Diligence (CRDD).
Qualifications
To qualify for the DFC internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: U.S. citizenship is required.
- Education: Actively enrolled (at least part-time) in a relevant graduate degree program at an accredited college or university. Accepted fields include Finance, Accounting, International Affairs, International Development, International Relations, or International Economics.
- Academic Enrollment: Must be continuously enrolled without a gap of more than five months since the last academic term.
Experience
- Relevant work experience, particularly in business or international business, is required.
- Experience in financial analysis or international project finance is highly beneficial.
Skills
Candidates should possess the following skills:
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling.
- Basic knowledge of finance and international business principles.
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
