Website National Institute of Standards and Technology

Job Description

The NIST Center for Neutron Research (NCNR) invites applications for the CORE program, providing hands-on experience in neutron science or engineering. This research opportunity is available as full-time, part-time, and volunteer positions year-round. Interns work under the mentorship of NIST staff, participating in active research projects funded by NIST and the National Science Foundation (NSF). The CORE program supports academic internships primarily during the school year; students interested in summer positions are encouraged to apply to the NIST SURF program by late January for broader opportunities.

Responsibilities

Selected interns will engage in neutron science research or engineering projects alongside experienced NIST researchers. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting hands-on research at the NCNR, focusing on neutron science or relevant engineering projects.
  • Working collaboratively with mentors and peers on experimental and analytical tasks.
  • Presenting research findings, with guidance, to colleagues and project stakeholders.

Further details on specific projects are available on the CORE and SURF program presentation pages.
